Our commitment
Accountable, citizen-centred public administration depends on including everyone. CIPAG is committed to ensuring that people with visual, hearing, motor, cognitive and neurological disabilities can access our information and services on an equal basis.
This policy covers our website, online forms, examinations, learning resources, communications and events.
Standards we follow
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Meeting this standard also supports the goals of Nigeria’s Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018, Kenya’s and South Africa’s disability and equality laws, the AU Protocol on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa, and equivalent laws in other countries where our members live.
Accessibility features
Keyboard friendly
Menus and links can be reached with the Tab key, with a clearly visible focus outline and a “Skip to main content” link.
Screen readers
Pages use headings, landmarks, labelled links and alternative text for meaningful images.
Resizable text
Pages can be zoomed to 200% and reflow on small screens without losing content.
Colour contrast
Text and controls are designed to meet minimum contrast ratios.
Reduced motion
Animations are minimised when your device is set to reduce motion.
Low-bandwidth friendly
Pages adapt to phones and tablets, and key information is available as text.
Examination accommodations
We provide reasonable adjustments so every candidate can demonstrate their knowledge fairly. Examples include:
- extra time and supervised rest breaks;
- screen-reader compatible or large-print materials, and adjustable on-screen fonts and colours;
- a reader, scribe or sign-language interpreter;
- a separate room, or a flexible time for remote proctored exams;
- permission to use assistive technology or medical devices during the exam.
How to request an accommodation
- Tell us when you book, ideally at least 30 days before your exam date.
- Describe the adjustment you need. We may ask for supporting documentation from a qualified professional; we keep it strictly confidential and use it only for this purpose.
- We will confirm the arrangements in writing, normally within 10 business days.
Approved accommodations do not affect how your exam is marked and are never mentioned on your certificate, badge or results.
Alternative formats and support
If you cannot access any content on our website, or you need a document such as a policy toolkit or certification guide in another format (for example large print, an accessible Word document or plain text), please contact us. We will try to provide it within 10 business days, or tell you when it will be available.
We can also help you complete forms by email if online forms are difficult for you to use.
Events and in-person services
For conferences, chapter meetings, webinars and in-person exams, we choose accessible venues and platforms wherever possible and can arrange accessible seating, captioning or sign-language interpretation on request. Please tell us about your needs when you register.
Known limitations
We are continuously improving, and some parts of the website may not yet fully meet our standard, including:
- some older PDF documents and images of text, which we are replacing with accessible versions;
- some interactive features, such as the country selector and sliders, which may be harder to use with certain assistive technologies;
- third-party content, such as social media embeds and external platforms, which we do not control.
If you encounter any of these, please contact us and we will provide the information in another way.
Feedback and complaints
If you experience a barrier, please tell us the web address (URL), a short description of the problem, and the device, browser and any assistive technology you were using. We will acknowledge your message within 5 business days and aim to resolve it, or propose an alternative, within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may ask for it to be reviewed by the Standards Council.
Ongoing review
We review the accessibility of our website at least once a year, test new features with keyboard and screen-reader tools before launch, and train our staff and agents on accessible communication.
